Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 17

December 23rd, 2008 kNuke

If you’re still playing fantasy football in Week 17, read the following directions very carefully.

  1. Get up.
  2. Find your league commissioner.
  3. Smack him/her in the head!

Nobody should be playing fantasy football in Week 17, that’s just plain ridiculous!

I hope you all had fun this year in your fantasy league, won some games, and talked some smack.  I hope that I was able to help you along the way.  I’ll be back next year to do it all over again so I hope you’ll join me.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please drop me a line.  I’d love to hear from you!

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 16

December 16th, 2008 kNuke

It’s championship week baby!  If you’ve come this far, you’re partly good and partly lucky.  For either reason, most of you won’t have the kahonees to switch up your lineup, but if you do, I have a few options for you.

QB: If you feel like playing Genius/Goat, Dan Orlovsky is your guy.  He has a great matchup against the Saints, but he does play for the Lions.  Genius or Goat, which one is it?

RB: Pierre Thomas is probably long gone by now in your league, but if not, he is a must start.  DeShaun Foster is a great play as well if Frank Gore is out.

WR: Deion Branch is a nice pickup against the Jets.  I’m going to throw in Davone Bess again just for good measure.  And I’ll add in Joshua Cribbs as well…  He might toss a TD!

TE: Good luck with this one.

Hope I helped your team this year contend for your fantasy championship!  If you have any Bench/Start questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 15

December 9th, 2008 kNuke

For most Yahoo leagues, it’s playoff time baby!  If you’re still checking my blog, you’re probably in the playoffs.  One guy this week may be the difference between going on and going home.

QB: Most teams that have come this far have a solid QB so this is for you 2-QB formats.  If Seneca Wallace is the starter, he’s a sneaky play this week against the Rams.  Shaun Hill is getting a lot of pub, but I don’t like the matchup.  Frank Gore is hurt, but I think the 49ers will run the rock anyways.

RB: Like most QB situations, your RB situation should be pretty solid.  But just in case, I like Darren Sproles against the Chiefs this week.  Alot of other injury replacements are being mentioned right now, but I don’t like any of their matchups.

WR: Deion Branch is the feature add this week after a 2 TD performance, but I’m not sold.  I’d rather risk it with Davone Bess or Devin Hester at this point in the season.

TE: John Carlson is still the guy.

DEF: The Washington Redskins play the Cincinnati Bengals; that’s at least a few turnovers for the Redskins defense.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 14

December 1st, 2008 kNuke

I wonder how many people were affected by that crazy MNF 4th quarter?  For most Yahoo leagues, this is the final week of the regular season.  Hope you’re a part of your playoffs.

QB: Like I stated last week, not much available on the wire.  If you’re lucky, Tyler Thigpen will still be out there, but if not, Sage Rosenfels is a great one week add if he’s the starter.

RB: Ryan Grant hurt his hand, go get Brandon Jackson right now.  Clinton Portis is all banged up, go get Ladell Betts pronto.  If Peyton Hillis, Pierre Thomas, or Sammy Morris is available, pick them up over the first two guys.

WR: I have to put Davone Bess in this space, because I’m a Hawaii Warrior fan!  If you think he won’t score TDs, you’re probably right, but you’ll get around 80 yards.  If not Bess, you can go with Domenik Hixon instead.

TE:  If you’re a Kellen Winslow owner, go pickup John Carlson.  If he’s not available, Benjamin Watson is your next best option.

Good luck!  I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you guys got, just send um over!

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 13

November 26th, 2008 kNuke

We’re a day late so we’ll get right to it.

QB: Hopefully you have a decent QB to play this week, because the pickings on the Wire are slim.  Kerry Collins has a great matchup against the Detroit Lions and is probably your best pickup.

RB:  Justin Fargas had 103 yards last week.  I don’t think he’ll get 100 yards this week, but he should score a TD.  Leon Washington doesn’t get a lot of touches, but the guy is electric.  If you absolutely can’t find another RB who gets touches, he’s your best pickup.

WR: Justin Gage did jack last week, but this week he has the Detroit Lions.  He’s a great play.

TE: John Carlson should catch a TD this week.  That’s the best any owner can hope for.

Good luck this week and Happy Thanksgiving.  Drop me a line if you have matchup questions or concerns.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 12

November 17th, 2008 kNuke

The trade deadline has passed so your roster is probably set, but you still have to pay attention to the Waiver Wire for two reasons.  The first reason is to handcuff yourself with backups just in case a starter goes down with an injury.  The other reason is to block your opponent; pay attention to their needs and act accordingly.

QB: There are a lot of options out there for QBs, but I’m still sticking with Tyler Thigpen as my choice.  Kerry Collins and Matt Cassell look nice, but I wouldn’t think twice about using Thigpen as my starter if my starting QB went down.

RB: Peyton Hillis scored twice last week, you can’t go wrong with that.  I don’t expect the Broncos to run that much, but I expect Hillis to score a TD a week moving forward.  Also, Antonio Pittman is a decent play this week as Steven Jackson is out.  More importantly, make sure to handcuff your starters with viable backups (see Steven Jackson example).

WR: Justin Gage, period.  Also, if Mark Bradely is still out there, grab him as well.

TE: We’ve done well with the TEs the past two weeks.  This week I’d grab Vernon Davis or Kevin Boss.  I’m betting both score a TD this week.

Remember, you can drop me a line anytime if you need some help with your Waiver Wire pickups.  Same goes for who to start advice as well!

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 11

November 10th, 2008 kNuke

Now it’s time to get serious.  All the Bye weeks are done so it’s full rosters the rest of the way.

QB: Tyler Thigpen is a must add even if you have a good starting quarterback.  The last thing you want is some knucklehead using him against you.

RB: BenJarvus Green-Ellis seems to be doing the heavy lifting in New England so he’s worth a roster spot as a Flex option.  Ricky Williams had a big run and a big game, but don’t think he’ll save your bacon.

WR: Mark Bradley looks like a player and is worth a look if you’re in need of a WR.  With the Chiefs chucking the ball around with Thigpen, Bradley could be in line for some TDs as defenses key on Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez.

TE: Dustin Keller came up big last week, but so did Todd Heap and Kevin Boss.  I doubt any of the three will do anything this week.  I’d bet on LJ Smith catching a TD pass.

This week marks the Trade Deadline for most leagues.  There will be teams looking for that one guy to help them win the championship.  Often times they’ll do a two for one deal to get that guy.  If you have a surplus of guys at one position, but lack another, take advantage of the situation and shore up your roster.

When doing so, take a long look at the matchups moving forward.  Don’t be afraid to trade away a #1 guy with a tough schedule.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 10

November 4th, 2008 kNuke

It’s the last Bye Week.  Cincinnati, Dallas, Tampa Bay, and Washington are off this week.

QB: Everyone wants to add Brady Quinn, but please don’t count on him for more than a week.  He has weapons around him and should have been the starter from the get-go, but now’s not the time.  Personally, I’d go with Sage Rosenfels.

RB:  I hope you already picked up Jamaal Charles.  Dude is fast and should get all the carries for the rest of the season.  He could be the reason you win your league.  Ray Rice has a good matchup this week against the Texans, but that backfield is too messy for my taste.  Of course if Willis McGahee is out, Rice gets really interesting.

WR: Greg Camarillo won’t score, but he’ll catch passes.  You can pencil in 80 yards.

TE: If you’re a Jason Witten or Chris Cooley owner, and didn’t pickup Visanthe Shiancoe, plug in Dustin Keller and hope for a TD.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 9

October 29th, 2008 kNuke

Now that the World Series is over, time to refocus on your Fantasy Football team.  Only a couple more Bye weeks left.

New Orleans, San Diego, San Francisco, and Carolina are the casualties this week.

QB: Marc Bulger has the Cardinals this week.  He’s the best option for you Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers owners.

RB: Ryan Torian is all the rage.  Pick him up now and trade him away in a packaged deal.  Everyone is picking up BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but I think Kevin Faulk is a better fantasy option.  Plus he’s probably still available in your league.

WR: Matt Jones is still a good play while he’s eligible.  Nate Washington and Brandon Lloyd are longer-term adds.  Personally I like Lloyd, remember he was all the rage earlier this season.

TE: Visanthe Shiancoe scores points, give him a try.

K: I don’t put kickers on here very often, but if Robbie Gould is available, pick him up for this week.  My usual strategy is to find the kicker playing against Detriot, Kansas City, or Denver.

Week 9 usually means some teams are out of contention.  If that’s you, don’t throw in the towel, waive a bunch of players or partake in a ridiculous trade.  Even though you can’t win the championship, you can still play spoiler and talk smack for at least a week!  And whatever you do, don’t come in last!!!

Drop me a line if you have any questions you need help answering.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 8

October 21st, 2008 kNuke

Make sure you replace any Bye week players on Chicago, Denver, Green Bay, or Minnesota.

QB: So much for that Brad Johnson pickup huh?  If you have a QB on Bye, Matt Cassell or JT O’Sullivan will fill your need.  Personally, I’d go with Cassell, O’Sullivan is too much of a human pinata.

RB: Reggie Bush is out, Deuce McAllister and Pierre Thomas look to benefit.  I’d grab Deuce, but he’s probably already gone.  A sneaky play this week could be Kevin Faulk if Sammy Morris is dinged up.  I’d bet he gets a TD.

WR: Kevin Curtis should play this week.  I wouldn’t start him this week, but I’d grab him for the rest of the way.  Donnie Avery is the hot pickup right now, I’m not sold.  That being said, if you’re in need of a WR, I won’t hold it against you if you give him a shot.

TE: Seattle sucks, but if they somehow score, it may be John Carlson who does it.  Kellen Winslow owners may want to keep Carlson on the bench for the rest of the season.

Week 8 signals a little over the halfway point for most fantasy seasons.  The Waiver Wire gets pretty thin after Week 5-6 so most pickups are Bye week fill-ins or injury pickups.

How’s your team doing thus far?  Drop me a line!
