Hawaii Click It or Ticket Campaign

I wear my seat belt every time I get into the front seat of a car; I figure that’s what it’s for. Do we really need to spend resources reinforcing this? I understand the campaign is targeted at young drivers, but shouldn’t they learn to wear a seat belt in Driver’s Education?
If a driver doesn’t want to wear a seat belt, I’m fine with that, it’s their choice. If they are in an accident, it only causes harm to them. If they’re willing to take that risk, that should a choice up to the driver.
Hell, people smoke, get lung cancer, give others lung cancer, and burden the Health system, which causes pain to the entire island. Maybe Hawaii should start a Quit It or Ticket Campaign for Smokers? Sounds pretty ridiculous huh? Exactly…

Actually, a Quit It or Ticket program does make some sense. Like you mentioned, it does hurt others and I would support it lol. However, you are right about the seat belt issue. It’s already a law (in fact, it’s covered in several laws). Police should already be watching out for this and everyone who gets in a car already knows to wear a seat belt.
So now the Police Department is claiming they need 20 million to upgrade their dispatch systems (http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20090518/NEWS01/905180351)? If they didn’t spend resources on ridiculous campaigns like this, perhaps they’d have money for things that actually matter.

Another thing that would help is a helmet law for motorcyclists. It’s hard to believe some riders actually argue that a helmet can cause injuries. C’mon – even bicycle riders wear helmets!
If your brain has anything inside it, put a helmet on when you’re riding a motorcycle.
